How to practice with a metronome

The rule that changes everything: set the tempo low enough that you can play the passage perfectly, then raise it by 4 to 8 BPM only after two clean repetitions. Speed you cannot control is not speed, it is noise. Most players practice chord changes between 60 and 80 BPM, one strum per beat, before playing songs at full tempo.

Guitarists specifically should practice keeping the strumming hand moving through the click even when it misses strings on purpose; that constant motion is what real rhythm guitar is built on. For material to practice with, our chord order guide pairs with this tool, and the chord library has every shape you need.
